Theres been alot of chat about Laddies poker, the site we currently use for our regular forum weekly games, and with the introduction of the official Talksport Forum Poker League soon upon us, we need to decide upon where we will be hosting this.

I think quite rightly alot of people, myself included, are pretty despondent about Laddies, and there have been noises to change for a good while now....but where to??

As some/many of you know, I often format, run, host and organise online poker tournaments, as well as play in them, which can either be privately formatted games or, as a consultant, I organise concepts that are released to the network. The vast majority of these I run over the Ipoker network, via the Rivercard skin (www.therivercard.com).

Being heavily involved with the skin hosts and network provider, I can very easily set up private games, tailored to individual requirements, so this would take care of the private game set up Laddies offers.

The software itself is pretty good. As with any change of site it takes some getting used to, but it is fairly straight forward to navigate your way around, the basic in play options are the same - and although the full screen avatars are a bit of a nonsense, the table layouts are pretty good. There are sometimes mini lags in play, which can be a tad annoying, and there is no "time bank" to allow you to take that touch longer to make a decision, leaving you with (i think) just 20 seconds to make your play when it is you to act.

The generic site itself offers a huge variety of cash tables, STTs, MTTs and satellites, and much like the VC site, they use action points which are accumulated during play to be used for buy ins into AP tournies and can (eventually) be turned into cash - this in lieu of a rakeback scheme.

The jackpot STT series are very good, where you win a cash jackpot if you finish 1st/2nd in 5 successive 10 seat STT's, as well as offering STT's in other variances of the game which for a change are well populated. There is also a live chat lobby within the software, which is useful to "meet up" before a game.

Its an option for us, in the absence of any other suggestions. Myself and Bally already hold accounts here, and my having access to the people behind it means any problems/issues/requests can normally get sorted out quicker and easier than having to go through the usual email support routines.

I think we are decided on out new league format, and just need to decide on two things....the date it starts, and where we will play it.

I will have a quick check and see if i can get any promotional offers for you to download the software and get a few free $'s to allow you to have a play around with the site, instead of you just having to endure the play money tables - otherwise, what do people think to giving it a bash?

although may be a problem with depositing on other sites as i have a joint account with hubby and a lot of sites will not let me deposit with a joint card

OK guys (and gals - sorry Chik!) if you create an account on the Rivercard online poker site (www.therivercard.com) and then email or PM me with your username and/or Table name (they are different - you will see from the registration process) I will arrange for your account to be credited with a totally free $3 real money to get you able to play off the bat.

This is not dependent on you making a deposit, or generating any rake, its basically a little promotion i have agreed with the powers that be to get you playing on their site. You can use this immediately on any game on the site, and hopefully you can turn that into profit through play!

I will, assuming everyone is happy, arrange for the regular weekly private MTT to be set up, password protected to us, for the format we agree on - I can also as said set up any other type of private game we want.

The Rivercard is part of the IPoker/Playtech network....it is not a stand alone site, the same as (pretty much) every site out there. If you download other poker sites, they will have the same look/feel as the Laddies site, as they are part of the Microgaming network - others are on the Boss network and so on.

Chik, i cant guarantee that you wont have problems if your card is in join names - i will ask the question and try and get you an answer before you register - sure you're not the only person with this problem, sure there is a way round it. But will ask and let you know accordingly.

Manintheknow - you can register a debit card - mine is a debit card - there should be no problems and i cannot remember any age guarantee checks/procedures other than certain check boxes, which if checked give the site/network a disclaimer.

Im not sayin this site is the be all and end all...im just saying that it may be an easy option as there is a link who can get things sorted quicker and easier and arrange special promotions and the like....i e ME!!!!

I'm not sure this is the time of year, to be starting a new league. Reason being, at this moment the WSOP is running and there are many UK Live Event's running through to September, with online qualifier's !! Plus the next 10 weeks is the main holiday time, so we'll always have 1 or 2 on holiday just now.
Maybe if we had just a monthly tournament for the next couple of months. As we have seen the last couple of weeks, there hasn't been that much interest and to be fair Sunday is the big money night for tournaments on most sites !! We need to think or discuss what the best format for a forum game over the next week or so.....Also we're waiting for Tony to sort out whats happening with the Charity tournament with Matt :h?: My feeling is lets wait a few weeks, however if you guys want to carry on then go for it, it's just I'll probably be to busy throughout the summer on Sunday evenings to play much ..:cool: glk Benny

Whilst I agree with Benny's sentiments for the league start, theres still nothing wrong with a regular game every now and then? Give chance for people to get used to the set up, navigation around the site, software etc???

Maybe even a Heads Up Elimination Tournament one night?

I have done the same as you Tony, I am unable to open an a real money account as our debit card is registered under my husbands name on a victor chandler account :-(

Yes, this is the problem i alluded to earlier in the thread guys....

If you dont mind (chik i know you've let me know your username) can you both PM me with your username, login name (if different) and the email address with which you registered on the Rivercard.

This can be sorted out, but i do need these base details - if thats ok with you of course.
